Starting Over… Is it too late? Never!
It seems, at times, as if I have started over too many times to count. We all do it at different times in our lives, I suppose. This new path is a big change, though—a whole new career. For me, this is a huge canyon to leap over. I completed my A.S. in Nursing decades ago, at age 26. I thought at the time that was it for me – that I would work as an RN until I retired at some ancient age. Little did I know life doesn’t always work out as planned.
I’m now the ripe old age of 52, and am working on completing my Bachelor’s degree and no longer nursing. I completed a several-year stint in online affiliate marketing in the years between my first college graduation and now. I enjoyed it and did well, but most companies require a four-year degree. My Associate degree simply isn’t enough to land me the jobs I really need and want. Therefore, I am starting over as a college student in my fifties. So many things have changed during the intervening years, making it quite a challenge. For example, there were little to no online classes in 1995, when I first graduated. That change makes it easier for me in many ways, allowing me to complete my classes with no driving required. Advancing technology makes it challenging when learning new computer skills, among other things.
Am I too old for this? The simple answer is no. If you want something badly enough, you will accomplish it. Slowly but surely, I am doing just that. The good news is that there is no time limit. As long as I can still think, I can learn. I am also working on authoring my first book. There is such a wealth of information available for free on the internet, I can learn almost anything if I just push myself hard enough. The good news is, so can you.
